Registered Dietitian Nutritionists - Bringing the science of food and nutrition to tables across the Mountain State.
The Helen Lodge Memorial Scholarship was established to honor WVAND member Helen Lodge, following her passing in 2015. Helen graduated from West Virginia University Institute of Technology and received her master’s degree from Marshall University. She had a successful 28-year long career at Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC), where she served as the Director of Dietetics and Food Service. In addition, Helen served as Director of Food Services for the Arthur B. Hodges Nursing Home and coordinated the Job Corps for Women's Training Program at CAMC.
Throughout her career, Helen made volunteering a priority, while also doing extensive consulting in hospitals in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. Among Helen's proudest accomplishments was influencing the 1964 WV Legislature to mandate that all newborns be tested for phenylketonuria (PKU).
Helen was Chairman of the Board of Licensed Dietitians in WV and was instrumental in establishing licensure in our state. These are just a few of the milestones for which Helen was most passionate.
The WVAND would like to honor Helen for the many lives she touched in her nutrition and dietetics career.
This scholarship is awarded based on achievement and promise of excellence in the profession of dietetics. The Helen Lodge Memorial Scholarship may not be awarded annually.
