2021 Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year (RYDY) Award

Jessica Runyon, MS, RDN, CNSC, LD

Jessica is described as a vital teammate in her work at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Not only is she a Certified Nutrition Support Clinician, but also serves as the Clinical Nutrition Manager at CHH

In light of COVID 19, Jessica has been reported as phenomenal : "...an essential team member on the intensive care units and stepdown units, as well as deal with staffing issues related to the pandemic . Jessica faithfully puts her team and patients first."

Jessica is collaborative ; working with Speech and Language Pathologist to implement the International Dysphagia Diet Standardization Initiative and leading the Nutrition Support Committee to achieve order writing privileges for clinical dietitians

Works to ensure efficient workflow, advance the role of the clinical dietitian , and maintains a positive and upbeat attitude

Criteria and Procedures

AWARD WINNERS DUE TO THE ACADEMY BY MAY 1

The purpose of the RYDY program is to recognize the competence and activities of younger dietitians in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and to encourage their continued participation in association affairs. This group will be an additional resource from which the leadership of the association will develop both at the district, state, and national levels.

Criteria for Selection (Affiliates may develop more detailed criteria to meet their needs.)

  1. Member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
  2. Age limit as of May 1 deadline, 35 years or younger.
  3. Active participation in the national, state, or district association.
  4. Is a Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.
  5. Not previously selected as an RYDY.
  6. Demonstrated concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the population.
  7. Demonstrated leadership, e.g., in legislation, research, education, management, etc., in the Association, community or employment.

Selection Procedure

  1. The maximum number of RYDY per affiliate, per year, is based on the number of districts. An affiliate may choose one RYDY from each district, but may not have more than one in a district.
  2. The complete responsibility for the selection of the recipient rests with the affiliate association. The affiliate award chair, affiliate president, or person designated by the state should coordinate the process. Another state officer or person may be designated to coordinate award information/applications for the state if needed.

Submission to the Academy Procedure

  1. The affiliate award chair, affiliate president, or person designated by the state must submit award winners via electronic submission between December 1, 2016 - May 1, 2017.
    1. Required data includes:
      1. Awardee Name
      2. Awardee Credentials
      3. Awardee Academy Member ID number
      4. District (If Applicable)
  2. Certificates will be electronically generated and mailed to the affiliate awards chair, affiliate president, or person designated by the state to then be distributed to the award winner by the affiliate.
  3. All other materials, include a duplicate copy of reference letters, should be retained by the affiliate

Award Recognition

  1. A certificate of recognition will be sent to the selectees together with a congratulatory letter from the President of the Academy.
  2. Recipients attending the Food & Nutrition Conference & ExpoTM (FNCE®) the following fall may pick up a ribbon for their badge at the ribbon booth near registration.
  3. The list of recipients for the year will be published in a fall issue of the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
  4. State associations may wish to recognize awardees from their states at state meetings or in state publications.
  5. Publicity for affiliate recipients should be handled by the affiliate or district public relations chair.
